the best part of my week

Thursday is my favorite day of the week.

I think we have already established this fact.

Thursday is a day full of anticipation.

What, you might ask, do I anticipate the most?

Well, you see, my life is very simple.

All day long my thoughts are consumed with longing for just one thing.

One thing.

And no, it is not Jesus. I should probably repent.

One thing.

All day long.

I think about it,

and my heart fills with glee,

and I do a little happy dance on the inside.

Sometimes even on the outside.

You see, the next day is Friday.

And on Friday,

I get to wear jeans.

Durable, comfortable, wonderful jeans.

I can’t explain the joy of jeans.

It doesn’t even make sense to me.

But all week long I crave them,

and Friday that craving is satisfied.

When I was a little girl, I hated wearing jeans.

Hated.

My mother finally bribed me into wearing them with a pair of cat earrings from the GAP.

This is not a joke.

Now I look back on those days and scold myself.

I totally take back all of those times that I said that I hated wearing jeans.

Now I see what a fool I was,

and I thank God for my mother and those silly cat earrings

that were the glorious beginning of my affinity for jeans.

I relish every Friday,

the day I get to wear jeans.

It is the best part of my week.

an ode to Thursday

thursday

Thursday is, with out a doubt, my favorite day of the week.

In junior high school my friend Dana and I loved Friends, the tv show. Now that I think about it, I can’t believe I watched that as a junior high schooler. Gross. But regardless, we loved it. It came on every Thursday, and we watched it religiously. Dana even invented a “Friends Thursday Pledge”. It went like this. “I pledge allegiance to thee, Friends (pause) Thursday.” I was in middle school. I was weird. Give me a break.

In high school my friend Kathryn and I were going on several summer trips together, and we decided to make matching t-shirts to wear on these trips. I do not remember why now, but for some reason, we painted the words, “Happy Jesus Thursday” on the t-shirts. We loved them.We loved them so much that we wore them almost every Thursday of our senior year of high school. Sometimes to throw people off, we would wear them on Tuesday or Wednesday. Again, weird, I know.

My freshman year of college I was in a Bible study called Upstream. We met every Thursday night. It was really instrumental in my spiritual growth. Every week after it was finished, we all went to Rumours (a cafe on campus) and ate breakfast at 11pm. This was a great tradition.

Every semester when I signed up for classes, you could choose from MWF (Monday, Wednesday, Friday) classes, or a TR classes (Tuesday, Thursday). Whenever I saw that little “R” show up it made me laugh. R is the 4th letter in Thursday! Why didn’t they pick H or Th? Because R is awesome, just like Thursdays. That’s why.

In college I rarely had Friday classes, so the weekend officially began Thursday afternoon. Those were the days… Now Thursday is the day that I really begin to anticipate the weekend. And anticipation is one of my favorite pasttimes.

It is a well known fact that I love Survivor and The Office. Both are aired on Thursday nights. Thursday is undoubtedly the best night of the week for television.

Last year when I was student teaching at the Junior High, Thursday was jean day. It’s hard to beat jean day.

Every other Thursday night my church hosts International Coffee House at the University Apartments, which happens to be full of International students and their families. We hang out with fun people from all over the world, eat, drink coffee, play games, and look for opportunities to share the Gospel. This is how I met my Polish friend Tomasz and his wife Rose! I look forward to these Thursdays tremendously! Afterwards, we all go watch The Office together at the house of someone who DVRed it. Fun times!

Oh, how I love Thursday.
